A bit more about Ballyboy...
Ballyboy is a tiny little village basically consisting of a pub (Dan & Molly's) a school (where there are 3 or 4 pupils in each class) and a couple of houses. It acts as a central village for a number of surrounding farms, and is only 1.5 km from the nearby small town called Kilcormac, where more amenities like a post office, a veggie market, a hardware store, a few pubs and several other shops can be found. It is nestled neatly in the Slieve Bloom mountains, where many beautiful walks are to be had.
Being only 15 minutes from Tullamore and Birr (two nearby larger towns), supermarkets that one only finds in larger towns are not too far away.
Ballyboy is a very small, quaint, attractive and historical village. Its name is derived from the Irish term "Baile Atha Buidhe" which translates into "Town of the Yellow Ford". The whole district of Kilcormac has a population of 1,300 people with about 300 of these being in the immediate surrounds of Ballyboy.
